  awareness contributes to crafting an actionable data strategy embracing da
 ta governance policy management, implementation of policy control, and adop
 tion of the right technologies to support these efforts. Yet data awareness
  cannot be mandated. It is an incremental process that begins with a baseli
 ne evaluation necessary for understanding the data landscape. \n\nThis
  baseline evaluation examines the business use cases for data and char
 acterizes data utility within those contexts. In this talk, we discuss how 
 a business value assessment of data helps to identify the different informa
 tion management stakeholders within the organization, describe their roles 
 and responsibilities, and map the way those roles interoperate within the o
 rganization. The approach of this assessment is to engage and interview the
  individuals taking on those roles to understand the business relevance of 
 information – how information, reporting, and analysis inform corpora
 te decisions, data assets recognized across the organization as adding valu
 e, business information use cases, and perceived gaps in information access
 ibility, provision, and utility.\nAttendees will learn about:\n\n
 Surfacing latent data management and data governance roles and describing t
 heir responsibilities.\n
 Describing business information use cases and business processes that are d
 riven by data.\n
 Devising key business metrics that inform decision-making processes.\n
 Using metrics to evaluate decision-making processes that benefit from impro
 ved governance.\n\n
